Screen Based Design

1.

Screen based design 1.

This assignment is the first assignment for web design. We will learn how to start planning a website and plan how to redesign a website.

Beggining

The first thing i do, was to choose a bad website to redesign. I godt a link in the assignment to bed website and i choose torontocupcake.com

The pain points and challenges of the website:

After visiting the site and use som time and pushing my way around the site I lose focus very quickly as it is a difficult site to use, but i find several pain points you can see under:

  • It is difficult to find the Online store, on my first visit to the site I did not see the store.
  • The layout needs work, it  have to be easier to navigate around
  • Some of the pictures are blurry, need new ones.
  • Repeating logo, at the top is the logo of the company 8 times and on the first page I see the logo 15 times.
  • It’s hard to read all the information on the page, and i don’t´t think its update,  and hard to find the information you need, it could be easier to read and find the information you need.
  • Some of the page have the same information or the information are distributed over several page,, that make it difficult to find.
  • Links on the page don’t work.

The target audience for the website is:

  • They sell cupcakes for companies with there companies own logos for meetings or other events the companies have.
  • Local residents, who want something sweet
  • Children’s birthdays, weddings, celebrations
  • I think the main audience is people between 25-45 years old.
  • Celebration seekers (individuals looking for cupcakes to celebrate special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, graduation or other milestones.
  • Event planners: collaborate with event planners who may need cupcakes for weddings, parties or other social gatherings.
  • Students
  • Tourism and visitors.
  • Food enthusiasts and influencer’s, if the cupcakes look beautiful and are inspirited, influencer’s want to order and take photos of the cupcakes and post on there Instagram to there followers. Ore people that look at social media and get tempted to try the cupcakes.

Competitors website inspiration

I started looking at Norwegian bakeries, but they didn’t have an Online store. The pages were fresh and inviting and you found information about where the store was, as well as contact information.

That’s why I started looking more at cupcake shops around and came across some that had a good design and were easy to use. Below are some points from the pages I found.

  • Appealing Design
  • User friendly Navigation
  • Online ordering system
  • Easy to find the information you need
  • Easy to find the Online-store
  • High-Quality Photography

Step three

What problems does your redesign need to solve and how?

  • My redesign needed to make the site fresh and easy to use and navigate around to find the information you seek. The customer or people who navigate to the Torontocupcake.com website must quickly find information about the store and that you can order cupcakes Online and have them delivered.
  • My plan is also to remove a page that I don’t think is necessary and add new features like a login button and your own profile/page in the store. Which makes it easier to order your favorite cupcakes, your information is already saved so you can quickly order new ones.
  • And if the customer is a company that wants its own logo on the cupcakes, it is easy to order more of them, when the customized choice is saved after the first order or it is easy to upload an image of the logo,
  • You must also have a new picture, the picture on the page is of low quality. It needs high quality images.
  • I also think it is important that when you hold over the cupcake that you like, there is more information such as allergens on the product and what it contains to ensure the consumer.
  • With those changes I think consumers will be more interested in the site and will order more.

Step Four

Create a User Personas

I have created two user personas. One is Toronto residents who like sweets. And another is a marketing manager in a company that orders cupcakes for meetings and events

Step 5.

List over content types:

  • Front Page: Logo, text, image
  • About: Logo, text, image
  • Cupcakes: Logo, text, image
  • Cupcake delivery: Logo, text, illustrations
  • Connect us: Logo, Text, Image
  • Corporate and Marketing Events: Text, Image, Logo,
  • FAQs: text, Logo
  • Occasions: text, logo, image
  • Community: illustration, logo, text
  • View map: text, logo,

They use, text, Logo, Image and illustration on there page.

Evaluate

I think to use , image, text and logo that they use today, but in a different way. I will make the text easier to read. Don’t have that many sites, keep them together like the about site, where to find them, etc. And i want to use hight quality images.

Gap analysis

Make the site easier to use and easier to find the information customers need (navigation). And that the links on the page work, and that the entire page has content.

The page needs more organization and the text needs to be organized so that it is easier to read the content, which makes it easier to see the different types of cupcakes and the choices you can make.

And add a new function, create an account and save your favorite cupcakes, or companies can save their profile and logo, so they can order cupcakes with their own logo easier than today.

  • New images
  • New text
  • New logo
  • New sites
  • New website structure
